2 fit older ladies from Alaska found Bagus’ tours out of Ubud and you should check them out. His partner “Eddy” was our bicycle guide and was very considerate about our level of ability (fairly high — but we’re not interested in racing or anything!) and our safety. Decent bikes with helmets and gloves were provided. Water was provided. A truly delicious lunch at the end was offered in a gorgeous Warung set right next to a lush green rice paddy. Fresh veggies with tasty spicing. We stopped first at a fascinating demo plantation including civets pooping coffee beans and many tea varieties. A sample of 12 delicious teas was offered to start off our trip. Bagus and Eddy figured out a perfect route for us — first leading us on well maintained cement paths through various rice fields in a few different communities. We would stop on occasion to take in a family temple and learn about local traditions. Eddy is quite the philosopher; authentically hospitable and greateful for his culture which strives to continue to live in harmony with the earth, and with all other people. Next we went up and down manageable hills on paved roads through small carving and agricultural communities. It was nice to be out of Ubud traffic and get a sense of life in the villages. We loved our tour through Bali rice fields and tours including a visit to a coffee plantation where we were able to sample 12 different types of tea and coffee. We also saw the palm civet which is famous for the Kopi Lawak and had the option to try it. Following we cycled through rice fields and on quiet roads through villages. Our guides were kind, funny and very informative and we felt really well cared for. Our bikes worked well both on dirt paths and paved roads. We finished with a tasty traditional linch(both of us are vegetarian and they had options for us). This was such a fun trip and we also got some exercise. Would Definitely recommend and do again!
